CreatingChange through Foster Programs.

Bully breeds are among the most misunderstood dogs in the country, and unfortunately, they make up a disproportionately high percentage of shelter populations — often exceeding 40% in some urban areas. Many of these dogs face the harsh reality of kill shelters or overcrowded facilities due to limited funding, resources, and space. Fostering is one of the most powerful ways to give these dogs a second chance: it removes them from high-risk situations, provides individualized care, and helps them thrive in a safe, loving environment while awaiting a forever home.

Our Foster Program Vision (Chicago & Minneapolis):

  • Create a network of committed foster families who can provide temporary homes for bully breeds rescued from kill shelters.

  • Prioritize dogs in high-risk shelters, focusing on those most at danger due to overcrowding or lack of resources.

  • Provide full support to fosters, including food, medical care, training resources, and ongoing guidance.

  • Raise awareness and break stigma by sharing foster stories and educating the community about the loyalty and heart of bully breeds.

  • Build a sustainable, city-specific model that can be replicated in other communities, ensuring bully breeds always have safe spaces to land.
